Brazil stocks higher at close of trade; Bovespa up 1.08%

Investing.com – Brazil stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Public Utilities , Industrials and Electric Power sectors led shares higher.

At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa gained 1.08%.

The best performers of the session on the Bovespa were YDUQS Participacoes SA (BVMF: YDUQ3 ), which rose 4.05% or 0.33 points to trade at 8.48 at the close. Meanwhile, Alpargatas SA (BVMF: ALPA4 ) added 3.88% or 0.24 points to end at 6.42 and Braskem SA (BVMF: BRKM5 ) was up 3.81% or 0.48 points to 13.08 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Hapvida Participacoes e Investimentos (BVMF: HAPV3 ), which fell 11.28% or 0.29 points to trade at 2.28 at the close. Companhia Brasileira De Distribuica (BVMF: PCAR3 ) declined 8.39% or 0.23 points to end at 2.51 and Marfrig Alimentos SA (BVMF: MRFG3 ) was down 8.36% or 1.46 points to 16.00.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the B3 Stock Exchange by 567 to 386 and 57 ended unchanged.

Shares in Hapvida Participacoes e Investimentos (BVMF: HAPV3 ) fell to 52-week lows; losing 11.28% or 0.29 to 2.28.

The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility , which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was down 8.45% to 31.09.

Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.32% or 8.56 to $2,661.44 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 1.36% or 0.96 to hit $69.75 a barrel, while the March US coffee C contract rose 0.01% or 0.03 to trade at $327.43 .

USD/BRL was down 0.69% to 6.11, while EUR/BRL fell 0.88% to 6.41.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.11% at 106.67.
