Investing.com – Canada stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the IT , Real Estate and Financials sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.82%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Stella-Jones Inc. (TSX: SJ ), which rose 6.90% or 4.53 points to trade at 70.22 at the close. Meanwhile, Colliers International Group Inc Bats (TSX: CIGI ) added 5.47% or 10.03 points to end at 193.35 and Celestica Inc. (TSX: CLS ) was up 3.96% or 5.86 points to 153.86 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were IAMGold Corporation (TSX: IMG ), which fell 4.26% or 0.34 points to trade at 7.65 at the close. Eldorado Gold Corp (TSX: ELD ) declined 4.20% or 0.94 points to end at 21.45 and First Majestic Silver Corp. (TSX: AG ) was down 4.05% or 0.34 points to 8.06.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 637 to 279 and 95 ended unchanged.
Shares in Celestica Inc. (TSX: CLS ) rose to all time highs; rising 3.96% or 5.86 to 153.86.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 17.35% to 9.86.
Gold Futures for February delivery was up 1.39% or 37.39 to $2,719.69 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 3.60% or 2.75 to hit $79.12 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 3.17% or 2.53 to trade at $82.45 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.10% to 0.70, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.27% to 0.68.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.14% at 108.96.
