India stocks lower at close of trade; Nifty 50 down 0.47%

Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Friday, as losses in the Technology , Banking and Fast Moving Consumer Goods sectors led shares lower.

At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 declined 0.47%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index fell 0.55%.

The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd. (NS: BPCL ), which rose 2.68% or 7.15 points to trade at 274.05 at the close. Meanwhile, Reliance Industries Ltd (NS: RELI ) added 2.63% or 33.25 points to end at 1,299.70 and Coal India Ltd (NS: COAL ) was up 2.42% or 9.15 points to 388.00 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Infosys Ltd (NS: INFY ), which fell 5.75% or 110.95 points to trade at 1,817.50 at the close. Axis Bank Ltd (NS: AXBK ) declined 4.43% or 46.00 points to end at 992.00 and Shriram Finance Ltd. (NS: SHMF ) was down 3.71% or 20.30 points to 526.50.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Zomato Ltd (NS: ZOMT ) which rose 2.83% to 248.75, Reliance Industries Ltd (BO: RELI ) which was up 2.50% to settle at 1,300.45 and Nestle India Ltd (BO: NEST ) which gained 1.97% to close at 2,212.95.

The worst performers were Infosys Ltd (BO: INFY ) which was down 5.67% to 1,817.00 in late trade, Axis Bank Ltd. (BO: AXBK ) which lost 4.59% to settle at 992.45 and Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (BO: KTKM ) which was down 2.59% to 1,758.50 at the close.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1184 to 1149 and 33 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1978 rose and 1798 declined, while 118 ended unchanged.

Shares in Axis Bank Ltd (NS: AXBK ) fell to 52-week lows; falling 4.43% or 46.00 to 992.00. Shares in Axis Bank Ltd. (BO: AXBK ) fell to 52-week lows; down 4.59% or 47.75 to 992.45.

The India VIX , which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 2.54% to 15.86.

Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.70% or 19.24 to $2,731.66 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 0.54% or 0.42 to hit $78.27 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 0.37% or 0.30 to trade at $81.59 a barrel.

USD/INR was up 0.03% to 86.59, while EUR/INR rose 0.02% to 89.22.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.07% at 108.89.
