Investing.com – U.S. stocks were higher after the close on Monday, as gains in the Utilities , Telecoms and Financials sectors led shares higher.

At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 0.78%, while the S&P 500 index climbed 0.79%, and the NASDAQ Composite index gained 0.64%.

The best performers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Amgen Inc (NASDAQ: AMGN ), which rose 2.77% or 7.91 points to trade at 293.89 at the close. Meanwhile, Travelers Companies (NYSE: TRV ) added 2.29% or 5.62 points to end at 250.75 and Apple Inc (NASDAQ: AAPL ) was up 2.21% or 4.37 points to 202.52 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Unitedhealth Group (NYSE: UNH ), which fell 2.09% or 12.54 points to trade at 586.93 at the close. Amazon.com Inc (NASDAQ: AMZN ) declined 1.49% or 2.75 points to end at 182.12 and JPMorgan Chase & Co (NYSE: JPM ) was down 0.64% or 1.51 points to 234.69.

The top performers on the S&P 500 were Charles River Laboratories (NYSE: CRL ) which rose 6.87% to 106.60, Enphase Energy Inc (NASDAQ: ENPH ) which was up 5.13% to settle at 54.55 and Qorvo Inc (NASDAQ: QRVO ) which gained 4.75% to close at 58.94.

The worst performers were Humana Inc (NYSE: HUM ) which was down 3.49% to 284.73 in late trade, DaVita HealthCare Partners Inc (NYSE: DVA ) which lost 2.98% to settle at 150.88 and Southwest Airlines Company (NYSE: LUV ) which was down 2.42% to 25.56 at the close.

The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Highest Performances Holdings Inc (NASDAQ: HPH ) which rose 5,775.00% to 3.99, STAK Inc (NASDAQ: STAK ) which was up 92.23% to settle at 2.23 and Sharps Technology Inc (NASDAQ: STSS ) which gained 70.00% to close at 0.04.

The worst performers were Ironwood Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ: IRWD ) which was down 32.41% to 0.64 in late trade, WiMi Hologram Cloud Inc (NASDAQ: WIMI ) which lost 25.36% to settle at 4.48 and Ostin Technology Group Co Ltd (NASDAQ: OST ) which was down 24.59% to 0.80 at the close.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 2207 to 608 and 42 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2310 rose and 1000 declined, while 124 ended unchanged.

Shares in Highest Performances Holdings Inc (NASDAQ: HPH ) rose to all time lows; rising 5,775.00% or 3.93 to 3.99. Shares in Ironwood Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ: IRWD ) fell to all time lows; falling 32.41% or 0.31 to 0.64. Shares in WiMi Hologram Cloud Inc (NASDAQ: WIMI ) fell to 3-years highs; falling 25.36% or 1.52 to 4.48. Shares in Ostin Technology Group Co Ltd (NASDAQ: OST ) fell to all time lows; losing 24.59% or 0.26 to 0.80.

The CBOE Volatility Index , which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 17.78% to 30.88.

Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.63% or 20.29 to $3,224.31 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 0.20% or 0.12 to hit $61.62 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 0.32% or 0.21 to trade at $64.97 a barrel.

EUR/USD was unchanged 0.12% to 1.13, while USD/JPY fell 0.24% to 143.17.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.40% at 99.49.
