U.K. stocks higher at close of trade; Investing.com United Kingdom 100 up 2.21%

Investing.com – U.K. stocks were higher after the close on Monday, as gains in the Banking , Mobile Telecommunications and Life Insurance/Assurance sectors led shares higher.

At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 2.21%.

The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Melrose Industries PLC (LON: MRON ), which rose 5.53% or 22.40 points to trade at 427.40 at the close. Meanwhile, Smurfit WestRock PLC (LON: SWR ) added 5.08% or 152.00 points to end at 3,145.00 and Standard Chartered PLC (LON: STAN ) was up 4.92% or 46.40 points to 989.40 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were London Stock Exchange Group PLC (LON: LSEG ), which fell 0.85% or 95.00 points to trade at 11,070.00 at the close. British American Tobacco PLC (LON: BATS ) added 0.22% or 7.00 points to end at 3,162.00 and Rentokil Initial PLC (LON: RTO ) was up 0.33% or 1.10 points to 336.00.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1475 to 340 and 549 ended unchanged.

Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.85% or 27.71 to $3,216.89 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 1.17% or 0.72 to hit $60.78 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract fell 0.85% or 0.55 to trade at $64.21 a barrel.

GBP/USD was up 0.74% to 1.32, while EUR/GBP fell 0.66% to 0.86.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.52% at 99.38.
