Australia stocks lower at close of trade; S&P/ASX 200 down 0.04%

Investing.com – Australia stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Energy , IT and Healthcare sectors led shares lower.

At the close in Sydney, the S&P/ASX 200 fell 0.04%.

The best performers of the session on the S&P/ASX 200 were Zip Co Ltd (ASX: ZIP ), which rose 16.22% or 0.24 points to trade at 1.72 at the close. Meanwhile, Ramelius Resources Ltd (ASX: RMS ) added 6.77% or 0.18 points to end at 2.84 and Regis Resources Ltd (ASX: RRL ) was up 6.46% or 0.29 points to 4.78 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Mineral Resources Ltd (ASX: MIN ), which fell 8.99% or 1.64 points to trade at 16.61 at the close. Perpetual Ltd (ASX: PPT ) declined 9.08% or 1.56 points to end at 15.63 and Whitehaven Coal Ltd (ASX: WHC ) was down 7.37% or 0.37 points to 4.65.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Sydney Stock Exchange by 553 to 520 and 429 ended unchanged.

Shares in Ramelius Resources Ltd (ASX: RMS ) rose to all time highs; gaining 6.77% or 0.18 to 2.84. Shares in Perpetual Ltd (ASX: PPT ) fell to 5-year lows; losing 9.08% or 1.56 to 15.63. Shares in Regis Resources Ltd (ASX: RRL ) rose to 3-years highs; up 6.46% or 0.29 to 4.78.

The S&P/ASX 200 VIX , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was down 0.43% to 14.94.

Gold Futures for June delivery was up 2.14% or 69.49 to $3,309.89 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 1.08% or 0.66 to hit $60.67 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract fell 0.97% or 0.63 to trade at $64.04 a barrel.

AUD/USD was unchanged 0.24% to 0.63, while AUD/JPY fell 0.33% to 90.37.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.68% at 99.29.
