Mexico stocks higher at close of trade; S&P/BMV IPC up 0.71%

Investing.com – Mexico stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Industrials , Consumer Goods & Services and Consumer Staples sectors led shares higher.

At the close in Mexico, the S&P/BMV IPC gained 0.71%.

The best performers of the session on the S&P/BMV IPC were Industrias Penoles Sab De CV (BMV: PEOLES ), which rose 7.96% or 31.39 points to trade at 425.87 at the close. Meanwhile, Wal Mart de Mexico SAB de CV (BMV: WALMEX ) added 3.54% or 2.02 points to end at 59.11 and Bolsa Mexicana De Valores SAB De CV (BMV: BOLSAA ) was up 3.50% or 1.30 points to 38.44 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Alfa, S.A.B. De C.V. (BMV: ALFAA ), which fell 2.54% or 0.32 points to trade at 12.27 at the close. Megacable Holdings, S.A.B. De C.V. (BMV: MEGACPO ) declined 2.20% or 0.95 points to end at 42.23 and Cemex SAB de CV (BMV: CEMEXCPO ) was down 1.51% or 0.16 points to 10.42.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Mexico Stock Exchange by 158 to 67 and 12 ended unchanged.

Shares in Industrias Penoles Sab De CV (BMV: PEOLES ) rose to 5-year highs; rising 7.96% or 31.39 to 425.87. Shares in Bolsa Mexicana De Valores SAB De CV (BMV: BOLSAA ) rose to 52-week highs; rising 3.50% or 1.30 to 38.44.

Gold Futures for June delivery was up 3.62% or 117.20 to $3,357.60 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 2.07% or 1.27 to hit $62.60 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 2.09% or 1.35 to trade at $66.02 a barrel.

USD/MXN was up 0.05% to 19.93, while EUR/MXN rose 0.10% to 22.73.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.92% at 99.04.
