Investing.com – Canada stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Energy , Materials and Consumer Staples sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.16%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Torex Gold Resources Inc (TSX: TXG ), which rose 9.86% or 4.33 points to trade at 48.24 at the close. Meanwhile, IAMGold Corporation (TSX: IMG ) added 8.08% or 0.84 points to end at 11.23 and Energy Fuels Inc. (TSX: EFR ) was up 7.30% or 0.42 points to 6.17 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Finning International Inc . (TSX: FTT ), which fell 4.32% or 1.68 points to trade at 37.22 at the close. Brookfield Business Partners LP (TSX: BBU_u ) declined 4.14% or 1.22 points to end at 28.27 and Linamar Corporation (TSX: LNR ) was down 3.86% or 1.88 points to 46.78.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 468 to 446 and 81 ended unchanged.
Shares in Torex Gold Resources Inc (TSX: TXG ) rose to all time highs; gaining 9.86% or 4.33 to 48.24. Shares in IAMGold Corporation (TSX: IMG ) rose to 5-year highs; gaining 8.08% or 0.84 to 11.23.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 0.04% to 27.22.
Gold Futures for June delivery was up 3.50% or 113.52 to $3,353.92 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 2.27% or 1.39 to hit $62.72 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 2.12% or 1.37 to trade at $66.04 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.61% to 0.72, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.24% to 0.63.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.87% at 99.10.
