U.K. stocks higher at close of trade; Investing.com United Kingdom 100 up 0.17%

Investing.com – U.K. stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Mining , Oil & Gas Producers and Beverage sectors led shares higher.

At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.17%.

The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Shell PLC (LON: SHEL ), which rose 2.66% or 63.00 points to trade at 2,434.50 at the close. Meanwhile, Associated British Foods PLC (LON: ABF ) added 2.61% or 55.00 points to end at 2,159.00 and Admiral Group PLC (LON: ADML ) was up 2.45% or 78.00 points to 3,258.00 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Bunzl PLC (LON: BNZL ), which fell 25.60% or 788.00 points to trade at 2,290.00 at the close. Diploma PLC (LON: DPLM ) declined 3.43% or 136.00 points to end at 3,824.00 and Informa PLC (LON: INF ) was down 3.30% or 23.60 points to 691.40.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the London Stock Exchange by 895 to 861 and 601 ended unchanged.

Shares in Admiral Group PLC (LON: ADML ) rose to 3-years highs; gaining 2.45% or 78.00 to 3,258.00.

Gold Futures for June delivery was up 3.20% or 103.61 to $3,344.01 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 1.78% or 1.09 to hit $62.42 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 1.70% or 1.10 to trade at $65.77 a barrel.

GBP/USD was unchanged 0.17% to 1.32, while EUR/GBP rose 0.78% to 0.86.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.76% at 99.21.
